We have Liftoff... kinda...

I am the owner of a brand new stove. Bought it at a discount supermarket the other day, and managed to hook up the gas lines without blowing myself up. Slightly worried the first time I tried to use it and heard the gas seeping out, but not seeing the spark. Such a rancid smell, natural gas. But I jiggled the batteries and there she was, pure, beautiful Promethian fire.

I had found some sales last week, so already had a new pot (to piss in), a strainer and frying pan, so the logical choice seemed to be garlic oil and sauteed mushroom fetuccini as my first home cooked meal. Utter brilliance, the flavour was.

So I tucked in and watched Forest Gump for (get this) the first time. Yup. First time. I boycotted it when it came out cause of all the hype, and the boycot just kinda stayed on until I realized it was half price day at the DVD shop and I may as well.

Considering the Forest boycot ended, I may get around to seeing Apollo 13 soon too, as I boycotted that too. I'm nearly certain my Titanic boycot will remain strong for some years to come, however.

Mykie, I'm with you on the Titanic boycott! I have never seen that movie (aside from a couple of bits and pieces), and possibly never will (hopefully, that is).

Never boycotted Forest, but I can see why you would. I hope you liked it. I found it to be pretty clever, and mildly moving.

As for the gas stove, the cooking, and the meal you made... sounds awesome. You, like me, it seems, love to cook and can appreciate fine foods. I have far, FAR too many appliances and what not, and worry what the hell I'll do with them all when/if I leave.

yeah forest was pretty good. i know it's a love story of sort, but i didn't like jenny.

oh, same day rented a brilliant korean film called the president's barber (大統領の理髪師). watched it with the japanese subtitles, so missed a bit of the finer points... but definitely recommend it.

well sorry-but I fuckin hated forrest gump, completely riduculous, piece of bologna (the kind with the icky olives in it). if the character accomplished one or two things perhaps it would've tugged at the ol' heartstrings-but the multidude of "successes" he had caused me to feel queasy-absurd-didn't do it for me-and as my buddy used to say "Stupid is as Stupid does"- WHAT IS THAT? hahha-sorry gents-obviously this film touches a very bad nerve with me

Myke: Actually, I've wanted to see the President's Barber for a while now. Saw the preview a year or so ago while watching another Korean flick, and have wanted to see it since, although I forgot about it until you just mentioned it. I actually haven't rented a flick in ages -- maybe 1.5 years. Will have to get on it.

taraaaaa. haha. yeah, didn't really think you'd be a forest fan. you can at least appreciate that i saw it a decade after it was made and only paid 150 yen?

yeah, i can't really figure out what stupid is as stupid does is all about. since his mamma always said it, it just made her seem more stupid. though i've never really liked sally fields.

i liked more of the humour in the film than anything else. like when bubba goes on about shrimp for three scenes naming various ways to cook shrimp, then abruptly says "that's about it really". and i thought leutenant dan was great. better than tom hanks, really.

i guess the biggest thing was that i had such a low expectation of the film, it turned out to be better than i thought. but somone seeing it in the hype may have been disappointed.

renting flicks is where it's at, richard. 1800 yen to see a movie on the big screen? f. that.

Dude,

Was soooo just gonna comment (probably something extremely wry, witty and wapow!) but this, this, this thing here is more like some demented Pagan Paean Phorum to how cool we are that we all boycotted shitty Tom Hanks' films. Well, I'm a happy person. I LIKE Tom Hanks and maybe it's only for Bosom Buddies, but hey, that's good enough for me. It should be for you too. So, you do not get my comment.

Why don't you go boycott shitty Comic Book Flicks they're about to run out of? Now that I'll comment about.

P.S. - totally slept in the street the other night not being able to find that love hotel you suggested...

Was thinking more along the lines of getting them for zero on the computer, but yeah, seeing them on the big screen is far more expensive than renting, to be sure.

my love of busom buddies is what made me boycot the drama tom. but whatevers.

comic books flicks. i liked sin city a lot.

hey, jim jarmusch has a new flick comin out that looks wicked. can't remember the title, but stars bill murray!

i can't believe, and yet i can... that you slept in the street (again). not quite the romantic night you were hoping for, yet probably more romantic than a mirrored ceiling.

was gonna say something about Big.

i think tara and manny would get along swimmingly the second or third time they met. we are similar in some ways, so tara, you would probably hate him at first.

kind of a shame you're so far away. nights out with me an brett would have kept you laughing. moreso that all the okinawa freaks you've met over the years.

he's the owner of sugar disaster. give him a read.

broken flowers. yeah, that's it. looking forward to that one for sure.

jarmusch is brilliant. actually, the only DVDs i have ever bought are the Sopranos, Fishing with John, and Jim Jarmusch films.

i am given some good ones however by various people i meet. one japanese dude i met randomly gave me a DVD of 80s music videos out of his car.

that's was a score. has the german version of Nena's 99 red ballons with german subtitles, so i'm practicing that for the day i find it in a karaoke box!!!

also has Men at Work's smash hit Down Under!! love that tune.

favourite line:
i asked to ya speaka my language?
he just smiled and gave me a vegimite sandwich
